Cobham Life Support
Oxygen and pressure regulation systems for space
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 4 — Life Support Systems, Cobham's space life support business supplies the oxygen and nitrogen regulators, cabin pressure relief and isolation valves, and water/gas on-off valves used in crewed spacecraft consumable delivery systems. The division holds a recurring contract from Thales Alenia Space Italia to supply regulators and valves for the European Service Module (ESM) of NASA's Orion spacecraft, with hardware under contract for ESM-4 through ESM-6, the modules slated to support Artemis missions launching in the 2026–2027 timeframe. These components form the plumbing layer of Orion's life support system, delivering the water, oxygen, and nitrogen that keep the cabin atmosphere and consumables within survivable limits during transit. Precise, leak-tight gas and fluid regulation of this kind is a foundational, if unglamorous, requirement for any capsule or habitat expected to sustain a crew across the multi-week transits and eventual multi-year stays involved in reaching and living on Mars.
