EnerSys
Aerospace battery systems and orbital energy storage
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 5 — Energy Production & Storage, EnerSys is an energy storage manufacturer whose ABSL Space Products line built the first rechargeable lithium-ion battery to power a satellite and has since flown on missions to Earth orbit, Mars, and Venus. ABSL batteries have supported more than one hundred space projects and logged roughly 2.8 billion cell-hours in orbit without a mission failure attributable to the battery, including service aboard NASA's Parker Solar Probe and, more recently, the Roman Space Telescope. The company's space batteries are built to hold charge and cycle reliably across the extreme temperature swings and radiation environment of deep space. That flight-proven reliability record matters directly for Moon-to-Mars architectures, where a lander, rover, or habitat battery has to survive repeated deep-discharge cycles through lunar nights or dust-storm blackouts without the option of a service call.
