Final Frontier Design

Commercial IVA and EVA spacesuit development

Accomplishments

Recognized under Tier 4 — Life Support Systems, Final Frontier Design is a Brooklyn-based spacesuit developer, founded in 2010 by Ted Southern and former Russian space program suit engineer Nikolay Moiseev, that specializes in intravehicular activity (IVA) suits for commercial crew and suborbital vehicles rather than NASA's EVA program. Its current-generation "3G" suit, built to NASA flight-certification standards, has been validated across multiple zero-gravity parabolic flight tests and is designed as a survival garment providing pressure and breathable air if a spacecraft cabin loses integrity. The company was acquired by Paragon Space Development Corporation in January 2022, aligning its suit work with Paragon's broader life support portfolio. As commercial capsules begin ferrying more crew through cislunar space and eventually toward Mars, low-mass IVA suits like Final Frontier's serve as the last line of life support redundancy against cabin depressurization during the highest-risk phases of long-duration transit.
