Gateway Foundation

Revolving space hotel; artificial-gravity habitat design

Accomplishments

Recognized under Tier 3 — Structural Habitats, the Gateway Foundation is the nonprofit advocacy and design organization behind Voyager Station, a proposed rotating space station intended to generate artificial gravity for long-term human occupancy, with construction work led by its affiliated company, Orbital Assembly Corporation, under CEO John Blincow. The published design calls for a ring of 24 modules producing gravity roughly equivalent to the Moon's, with capacity for several hundred occupants across research, residential, and commercial space. Publicly stated construction and opening timelines have slipped repeatedly, from initial 2025 targets to a 2026 construction start and 2027 opening, and as of mid-2026 the project remains in the design and fundraising stage rather than active orbital construction. The Gateway Foundation's focus on rotational structures for artificial gravity addresses a problem central to Mars colonization: how to keep crews healthy on multi-month transits and long-duration stays without the deconditioning effects of sustained microgravity.
