GITAI

Recognized under Tier 8 — Robotics, GITAI is a Japanese developer of general-purpose robotic arms for both in-space and planetary-surface use. Through its Japanese subsidiary, GITAI holds a JAXA contract to conduct a concept study, completed in March 2026, for a robotic arm system on Japan's pressurized crewed lunar rover, developed jointly with Toyota as part of the Artemis program; the arm is designed to handle regolith excavation, rock and soil sample collection, and installation of scientific payloads during both crewed and uncrewed operations. The company has also flown robotic arm technology on the International Space Station in earlier commercial airlock demonstrations. GITAI's arms are aimed squarely at the excavation, sample handling, and equipment-installation tasks that lunar and Mars surface operations will need automated well before permanent crews can perform that labor themselves.
