ILC Dover
Inflatable and soft-goods pressure vessels; EVA suit components
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 3 — Structural Habitats, ILC Dover is a Delaware-based manufacturer of soft-goods pressure structures and spacesuits, best known for building the Apollo-era lunar suits and now working on both inflatable habitats and next-generation EVA garments. Since 2022, ILC Dover has partnered with Sierra Space on the LIFE inflatable habitat, jointly completing one-third-scale and full-scale burst pressure tests at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center that exceeded NASA's required safety margins. On the spacesuit side, ILC Dover supplies the pressure garment assembly for NASA's next-generation lunar EVA suit program, working alongside Collins Aerospace and Oceaneering. Because ILC Dover's expertise spans both flexible pressure-vessel habitats and pressurized garments worn by crews outside them, its work bears directly on two of the hardest structural problems in Mars colonization: building lightweight, high-volume habitat shells and keeping astronauts alive and mobile on the surface.
