Kongsberg Satellite Services

Global ground station network for deep-space relay support

Accomplishments

Recognized under Tier 7 — Interplanetary Communications, Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), based in Tromsø, Norway, operates one of the world's largest commercial ground station networks, with more than 280 antennas across roughly 26 sites worldwide, including the high-latitude SvalSat facility in Svalbard and TrollSat in Antarctica. Through its Ground Station as a Service model, KSAT provides tracking, telemetry, command, and high-rate downlink support for satellite operators across all major orbits, and has expanded its Integrated Mission Services offering to combine launch support, mission operations, and data delivery for growing satellite fleets, including a 2026 partnership with Kongsberg NanoAvionics on smallsat mission operations. While KSAT's public deep-space-specific capabilities are less documented than its Earth-orbit ground network, its global, high-latitude station coverage is the type of terrestrial backbone that lunar and Mars missions rely on to receive and transmit data whenever a spacecraft is not in direct line-of-sight of a single ground site.
