Cygnus cargo spacecraft; Antares rocket; space logistics
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 1 — Interplanetary Logistics, Northrop Grumman operates Cygnus, a cargo spacecraft that has flown resupply missions to the International Space Station for over a decade under NASA's Commercial Resupply Services contracts, most recently the NG-24 mission in April 2026. Its Antares rocket, previously reliant on a Russian-built first stage, has been redesigned as the Antares 330 with a fully domestic first stage built by Firefly Aerospace; its debut flight, carrying the NG-25 Cygnus mission, is targeted for around August 2026, with Cygnus flying on Falcon 9 in the interim. Northrop Grumman's decade of continuous, contracted cargo delivery to a crewed orbital outpost is a direct precedent for the resupply logistics that lunar and Martian bases will require, and the company is positioning Cygnus-derived hardware for future cislunar logistics roles.
