Paragon Space Development

Closed-loop air, water, and thermal life support systems

Accomplishments

Recognized under Tier 4 — Life Support Systems, Paragon Space Development Corporation is a Tucson, Arizona-based engineering firm that has designed, built, and tested closed- and open-loop environmental control and life support hardware for NASA and commercial partners since 1993. Its most significant current program is the Environmental Control and Life Support System for Northrop Grumman's Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), the first crewed module of NASA's lunar Gateway, under a contract finalized in 2022 and valued above $100 million; Paragon is responsible for the air revitalization, ventilation, and atmospheric monitoring subsystems that will condition the module's atmosphere, scrub carbon dioxide, and control humidity for visiting Artemis crews. The company also acquired spacesuit maker Final Frontier Design in 2022, broadening its life support portfolio. Paragon's work on regenerable, mass-efficient atmospheric systems addresses the core engineering problem of sustaining a breathable, stable environment far from resupply — a prerequisite for any multi-year lunar or Mars habitat.
