Redwire BioFabrication

Recognized under Tier 9 — Extraterrestrial Healthcare, Redwire's BioFabrication division operates the 3D BioFabrication Facility (BFF) aboard the ISS, the bioprinter platform it inherited through its 2021 acquisition of Techshot. In September 2023, the upgraded BFF printed the first human knee meniscus in orbit, and in a separate run it produced living cardiac tissue that returned to Earth for analysis in April 2024, among the first bioprinted heart tissue produced and matured in space. The facility's Z-tower print heads and ADSEP bioreactor allow soft bioink structures to hold their shape and mature into tissue without the gravitational collapse that limits thick-tissue printing on the ground, and ESA has additional bioprinting hardware planned for ISS delivery in the 2025–2026 timeframe. Redwire's stated long-term goal is manufacturing whole transplantable organs in orbit, work directly relevant to keeping Mars-bound crews treatable for injuries and organ failure without a return trip to Earth.
