Rocket Lab
Electron & Neutron rockets; Photon deep-space spacecraft bus
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 1 — Interplanetary Logistics, Rocket Lab operates Electron, a small orbital launcher with one of the highest flight cadences of any active rocket, and is developing Neutron, a partially reusable medium-lift vehicle targeting its debut flight in late 2026 from Wallops Island, Virginia. Its Photon spacecraft bus has moved beyond Earth orbit: two Photon-built spacecraft launched in November 2025 aboard Blue Origin's New Glenn as NASA and UC Berkeley's ESCAPADE mission, and are set to reach Mars around September 2027 to study how the planet's magnetosphere and atmospheric escape processes affect long-term habitability. That mission makes Rocket Lab one of the few commercial companies with hardware already in transit to Mars, and positions Photon as a proven, lower-cost bus for the interplanetary probes and relay spacecraft that a sustained Moon-to-Mars logistics chain will depend on.
