Secure World Foundation

Recognized under Tier 10 — Martian Law & Finance, Secure World Foundation is a private operating foundation dedicated to the long-term sustainable use of outer space, working across technical, policy, and legal channels to advance space governance. The foundation runs an annual Space Sustainability Research Fellowship — its 2026 cohort examining how private-sector actors can be incorporated into international governance for space safety and traffic coordination — and organizes the Summit for Space Sustainability, whose eighth edition convenes in Brazil in November 2026 in partnership with the Brazilian Space Agency. Its published policy work spans debris mitigation, space situational awareness, licensing modernization, and international cooperation frameworks. As cislunar and Mars-bound traffic increases, the governance gaps Secure World Foundation studies — how nation-state treaties accommodate commercial operators, and how traffic coordination scales beyond Earth orbit — will directly shape the rules under which future Mars transit corridors and surface operations are licensed and deconflicted.
