United Launch Alliance

Vulcan Centaur heavy-lift; government and commercial launch

Accomplishments

Recognized under Tier 1 — Interplanetary Logistics, United Launch Alliance is the operator of Vulcan Centaur, a heavy-lift rocket certified for U.S. national security launches and built to eventually succeed the Atlas V and Delta IV families. ULA had targeted 18 to 25 Vulcan and Atlas V flights for 2026, but a repeat booster performance anomaly prompted the U.S. Space Force to pause national security missions on Vulcan pending investigation, adding financial and schedule pressure to the program. Vulcan's Centaur upper stage is designed for high-energy trajectories, giving it applicability beyond low Earth orbit to lunar and deep-space payload delivery. As one of a small number of providers certified for both government and commercial heavy-lift missions, ULA's launch cadence and reliability record directly affect how quickly government and commercial payloads bound for the Moon and beyond can reach orbit.
