Vast Space
Haven-1 commercial station; crewed by SpaceX Dragon
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 3 — Structural Habitats, Vast Space is a California-based company building Haven-1, designed to be the first single-module commercial space station, intended to house four astronauts in roughly 80 cubic meters of pressurized volume for stays of up to 30 days. The station's primary structure was completed in mid-2025, and Vast has since moved into systems integration and environmental testing at NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility. Crew transport is planned aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft under the Vast-1 mission. Vast has pushed Haven-1's launch target from 2026 to the first quarter of 2027 to complete integration and testing. As a company building and testing a complete, single-launch crewed habitat from the ground up rather than assembling one in orbit over years, Vast's approach to structural design, life support integration, and rapid habitat development speaks directly to the compact, self-contained modules a Mars transit vehicle or early surface habitat would require.
