Recognized under Tier 7 — Interplanetary Communications, Viasat is a high-throughput satellite communications provider with a long-standing government and defense business alongside its commercial broadband fleet. In 2026, Viasat and Intelsat General Communications were jointly awarded a $437.7 million U.S. Space Force contract under the Protected Tactical Satellite-Global (PTS-G) program to design and deliver small, agile geosynchronous satellites with anti-jamming, contested-environment communications capability, with work running through March 2029. Viasat separately secured additional Space Force satellite-support contract awards during the year. This kind of resilient, secure, anti-jam relay architecture — built for military and government users operating under adversarial conditions — represents the class of hardened communications infrastructure that deep-space and lunar surface operations will require to maintain reliable command, navigation, and data links back to Earth outside of purely commercial broadband networks.
