Afshin Beheshti

Recognized under Tier 9 — Extraterrestrial Healthcare, Afshin Beheshti conducts research in computational biology and multi-omics analysis applied to understanding the biological effects of spaceflight. At NASA Ames, Beheshti uses genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic approaches to characterize how spaceflight affects human and model organism biology at the molecular level, including contributions to the NASA Twin Study and the NASA GeneLab platform. This work has substantially advanced understanding of how the body responds to the combined stressors of microgravity and radiation — a molecular-level foundation for developing targeted countermeasures to protect Mars-bound crews.
