Alin Albu-Schäffer

Recognized under Tier 8 — Robotics & Autonomy, Alin Albu-Schäffer has made distinguished contributions to robot dynamics, compliant actuators, and advanced robotic manipulation at the DLR German Aerospace Center. Albu-Schäffer's research on torque-controlled lightweight robots — including the DLR Hand-Arm System and contributions to the Rollin' Justin and SARA platforms — has advanced the state of the art in dexterous robotic manipulation and whole-body compliant control. These capabilities will be essential for robotic systems tasked with complex construction, maintenance, and assembly work on the Martian surface, where robots must interact safely and skillfully with their physical environment and work alongside human crew members as genuine partners.
