Charles Bauer

Recognized under Tier 5 — Energy Systems & Power Generation, Charles Bauer has contributed technically to space power management and distribution systems at NASA Glenn Research Center. Bauer's work on the engineering of power systems for spacecraft and surface operations — including power management architectures, distribution systems, and the integration of different generation and storage technologies — addresses the critical systems-level challenge of reliably delivering power where and when it is needed across a complex space installation. A Mars colony's power grid will need to be robust, fault-tolerant, and capable of managing multiple energy sources and loads simultaneously, and the power systems engineering expertise Bauer has developed is directly relevant to meeting that challenge.
