Joseph Paloski
Vestibular adaptation and sensorimotor function in spaceflight
Accomplishments
Recognized under Tier 4 — Life Support & Closed-Loop Systems, Joseph Paloski has made significant contributions to understanding sensorimotor adaptation and human performance in the spaceflight environment. Paloski's research at NASA Johnson Space Center on how the human vestibular system and motor control adapt to microgravity — and the implications of those adaptations for crew performance during landing and early surface operations — addresses one of the key human factors challenges Mars colonists will face upon arrival after months in microgravity. The ability to function effectively immediately after landing, potentially in an emergency situation, makes this research directly relevant to crew safety and mission success.
