Roland Siegwart

Recognized under Tier 8 — Robotics & Autonomy, Roland Siegwart has made exceptional contributions to autonomous mobile robotics, field robotics, and aerial robots at ETH Zürich. Siegwart's research on legged robots, wheeled mobile systems, micro aerial vehicles, and the algorithms enabling them to navigate reliably in complex, unstructured environments has been highly influential globally. The autonomous navigation, perception, and mapping capabilities this research has helped advance are directly transferable to the challenge of deploying robots on the Martian surface, where reliable, unsupervised mobility over rough and varied terrain is a fundamental operational requirement.
